THINGS TO DO
Lake Claire
At the actual lake (Not the housing community right in front of it), you can enjoy many activities. From paddle boarding and kayaking to beach volleyball and soccer, Lake Claire is the spot if you don’t want to make that drive all the way out to the beach. Plus, rentals are free to students!
Boing
UCF’s Jump Center. It’s a warehouse with walls and floors made of trampoline for jumping, working out, or playing games. Dodgeball will never be the same once you’ve played it at Boing!
Hardknocks
Laser Tag at its maximum level. With the first indoor Combat Sports facility and largest Combat entertainment armory making the experience better than ever. This isn’t your regular laser tag, this is your Indoor War.
Boardwalk Bowl
Being the largest bowling center in Orlando with 80 lanes to bowl down, this is a great place to see who the best bowler amongst your friends is. With specials all throughout the week like $1 games on Thursdays and Cosmic bowling on Saturdays, there is no reason why you shouldn’t practice your game once a week. From the beginner levels to the experts in the leagues, Boardwalk is always fun.
Congo River Golf
Mini golfing with Alligators! Experience tranquil waterfalls, mysterious caves, tropical rainforests, and challenging holes while having fun with your friends. Practice your putting or give your luck a try, either way at Congo River Golf you will have an enjoyable experience.
Firkin & Kegler
Bowling, music, arcade games, billiards, golf simulator, giant TV’s with all the sports and shows you could ask for, Firkin & Kegler is the sport to go with friends and family. Also offering some of the best pub food in the Orlando area, this is a place you need to check out when in the Waterford Lakes mall.
Dave & Busters
If you are looking for arcade games and great food and drinks all packaged into one, Dave & Busters is the place to go. With some of the newest arcade games out there, it truly brings out the kid in you. So swing by and let your inner kid out. Located on I-Drive near Pointe Orlando.
AREAS TO EXPLORE
Waterford Lakes
UCFs Mall. Waterford is a great place to explore to do some shopping, eating, coffee drinking or simply to catch a movie. Definitely take a few hours to browse both sides of the mall. It's too big to write about it, so just go.
Oviedo
Those of us that live in Northgate or Hawthorne already use "Oviedo" in our mailing addresses but do we really know what Oviedo has to offer? It's not just that place down Alafaya, it's home to plenty of strip malls, restaurants, the Oviedo mall (beautiful but usually not busy at all) and various entertainment options. Take a drive out to Oviedo and explore outside of the Alafaya area. You'll be surprised at what you find.
Avalon Park
A hidden gem in the UCF area. Located past Waterford on Alafaya is a very small town with a few shops and restaurants. Avalon park is quiet and a great place to get away from the UCF hustle and bustle. Only about a 15-20 minute drive from campus. Good date spot and a nice place to hangout when you want to see something different close by.
Winter Park
Winter park is the ritzy little town located right in our backyard. Chock full of shops bars and insanely delicious restaurants, Winter Park is an awesome place to explore. Home to Rollins College, you can be sure you'll find something to do here. Grab a coffee, eat lunch or just browse the shops. An awesome way to spend a lazy Sunday.
Millennia
The Mall at Millenia is what you want to explore. With high end shops and restaurants, you'll feel like your in a whole other world. Explore the mall and then grab a bite to eat in the surrounding area.
International Drive
Better known as I-drive, International Drive is the tourist trap of Orlando. Filled with people from all over the world I-Drive has plenty of cool restaurants and attractions but you have to know where to go so you don't get ripped off. If you want to grab a bite go to Café Tu Tu Tango, you’ll thank us and so will your date. Next, try heading over to Pirates Cove mini golf or Dave and Busters if you’re looking for some fun. Wonderworks is also a great attraction and while your at it, be sure to check out Pointe Orlando (the mall at the end of the strip).
Pointe Orlando (Rosen Area)
During the cool summer nights or winter days, the Pointe Orlando is definitely a great place to visit. It’s an outdoor mall with tons of great shops to visit. Perfect for a good day of shopping or going on a date.
Universal & City Walk
If you don’t want to spend money at Universal/Islands of Adventure, wait for Universal Knights (the one night of the year UCF rents out the park for students only). Citywalk is where you want to go out when you’re 21+. With a few different themed bars like Margaritaville and clubs like the Groove, you’ll want to make sure you don’t go too often as Citywalk drinks are expensive but its fun for a change of pace and great for a big group of people for a bar hop. Just make sure your have a sober ride.
Disney
No. It doesn't have to cost you $100 every time you go. Disney has plenty of fun low cost things you can do if you know how to work it. First of all go to the ticket office in the Union to get the cheapest tickets possible. Second, check ticket rates and discounts (the Epcot after 5 pass is super cheap and you can drink around the world). Third, think outside the box. You don't HAVE to go to a park to go to Disney. Make the most out of the Disney Area. Downtown Disney is a free way to get a taste of Disney and a great place to eat, go on a date or get a drink. If you're real smart you'll book dinner at one of the hotels, enjoy the service and the atmosphere and then make a stop at downtown Disney (free parking at both and hint: you can ride the Disney busses to and from the hotels, parks and downtown Disney.) Don't forget about mini golf, the boardwalk, the dine in theater and the house of blues. Get creative and you'll see how cheap you can actually have fun at Disney for.
